Project Designer - Education Market

GBBN seeks to hire a lead designer for our higher education portfolio, based in our Cincinnati, Ohio office. The ideal candidate would have 15-plus years of lead design and planning experience for projects on college and university campuses with construction budgets of $5M or greater. Specifically, we seek candidates with student life, academic and/or science and research experience.

Responsibilities: Every successful project requires excellence in project management, design and technology. GBBN dedicates a team member to each of these roles. Therefore, the candidate must be comfortable in a team delivery system where his/her primary role will include:

  • Articulating design approaches and strategies as part of project sales efforts.
  • Working with Project Managers to develop work plans of and lead the design process, including coordination of interior design, consultants, and code compliance.
  • Managing firm and client expectations for project design, budget, and life-cycle costs.
  • Preparing with the project teams and making regular presentations to clients.
  • Participating in regular internal charettes on projects throughout GBBN's markets, both domestic and international.
  • Contributing to GBBN's culture in ways that are mutually beneficial in terms of both professional development and fellowship.

 Qualifications and Experience:  GBBN believes that one's professional career is the responsibility of each individual.  We believe in self-directed work groups that work on behalf of our clients and the firm as a whole.  Therefore, the candidate is expected to be proficient in both project performance and as a contributor to GBBN's continuous improvement.

  • 15-plus years of experience with roles described above.
  • Demonstrated excellence in the design of college and university facilities.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage the design process of multiple projects of scale.
  • Ability to lead and participate in multi-disciplinary collaborations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including comfort with presenting to large groups of peers and/or client teams.
  • Professional license.
  • LEED AP preferred.
  • Proficient in 2D and 3D graphic communications:  hand sketching, Autocad, Revit, Sketch-up, and presentation software such as Powerpoint, Photoshop and Coreldraw.
