Architectural History Passes Forward

The Architectural Foundation of Cincinnati (AFC) recently celebrated its 25th year anniversary with a luncheon to honor the founding members of the Foundation and the accomplishments over the years. Instrumental members Bob Gramann, FAIA, and Bob Dorsey, FAIA, retold stories from 1979 when the American Institute of Architects held its National Convention in Cincinnati. The AIA Cincinnati Chapter applied the proceeds from the convention to form the Foundation, and since then, the AFC has supported architectural preservation, acknowledged leadership in the community, and led educational programs for school-aged children to support architecture in the community.

GBBN has played a key role in the AFC from its inception to today, and expects to help continue these traditions well into the future. Individuals who have served on the Board of Trustees for the Foundation include: Gramann, John Rogers (both having held the office of President), Alan Warner, Steve Kenat, Jim Harrell, Ron Kull and Bob Knight. "The involvement by architects in Cincinnati from many firms, including GBBN, shows how committed the profession is to AFC's mission of preservation and outreach," said Gramann on the past, present and future of the Foundation.

Bob Knight has just accepted a three-year term as Trustee (2007-2009), and was invited back to the Board after serving in 2003. "It's clear that the Architectural Foundation of Cincinnati is making a difference," said Knight. "I'm excited to be part of the future, and to build on the work done to date."

The Architectural Foundation increases awareness and encourages improvement of the built environment in Cincinnati through programs, events, grants, and publications. For information, visit:  http://www.architecturecincy.org/
