Excitement Regarding Horse Park Is Running Wild

You can't pick up a copy of the Lexington Herald-Leader these days and not read something about the new Kentucky Horse Park and the long-term economical effects it's going to have on the Commonwealth as a whole.

GBBN is proud to be providing full architectural and design services in collaboration with 360 Architecture for the facilities that will host the World Equestrian Games in 2010. According to a statement released by the Governor's office in conjunction with the announcement of the project back in September 2005, the Games are estimated to have a $90 million economic impact on Kentucky.

"The Horse Park is big news, and it's not even built yet," said Joe Turley, Principal-in-Charge of the new 170,000 square foot, world-class equestrian indoor arena. "To say the enthusiasm is unbridled is an understatement."

The Games will include representatives from 51 countries vying for championships in seven equestrian sports: show jumping, dressage, eventing, driving, reining, vaulting and endurance. Due to the expected number of participants and spectators, outdoor seating for an additional 30,000 has been proposed. GBBN recently completed the design for the 10,000 permanent and 20,000 temporary seating project. "Right now we're waiting to hear whether or not the legislators will approve the additional needed bond funding," said Turley. The funding request is for road improvements, as well as the additional seating.

"We're thrilled to be involved with a project of such magnitude," said Turley. "The Horse Park is going to bring the world's focus to not only Lexington, but to the Commonwealth as well."
