The saying is “Louisville, Do Something Original”, and that’s exactly what GBBN Architects intends to do when it opens its doors for business at 609 West Main Street in August.
The 50-year-old, international healthcare design firm is expanding its practice to Louisville, and bringing nearly 2,000 healthcare projects worth of experience with them.
“I’m thrilled to be able to bring our healthcare design expertise to my hometown,” said David Proffitt, AIA, who will oversee the day-to-day operations of GBBN Louisville. “We’ve assembled a team of immensely talented healthcare planners and designers who have experience both local, regionally and internationally.”
With four American College of Healthcare Architects (ACHA) members on staff, along with decades of relationships with world-renowned healthcare facilities and physicians as its foundation, GBBN will provide new clients with the assurance that any teams assembled for their projects will be made up of the best of the best. “We believe in the collaboration approach when it comes to providing design and planning services to our clients,” said Proffitt. “We have a proven track record of working with other firms on projects in order to meet and exceed the needs of a client.” A prime example of this collaborative effort is currently underway with Ellerbe Beckett on the $450,000,000 University of Kentucky’s Patient Care Facility. Over 45% of GBBN’s book of business is healthcare based. “We want to provide Louisville and Western Kentucky’s hospitals and healthcare facilities with our original approach and proven design services,” said Proffitt.
Joining Proffitt and adding to the strength of the GBBN Louisville healthcare team is Todd Dunaway, an experienced healthcare design architect. Both Proffitt and Dunaway have strong ties to the Louisville community.
“Even though I grew up in nearby Vine Grove, I consider Louisville my home,” said Dunaway. “I live, work and play here, and I think that’s important to convey to clients.” Dunaway has been involved in a number of local healthcare design projects including: Clark Memorial Hospital Expansion/Renovation; Lion’s Eye Research Building; Premier Diagnostic Imaging, as well as others in Jeffersonville, New Albany and Bloomington, Indiana.
In addition to healthcare, GBBN has extensive design experience in the following markets: Arts & Entertainment (Performing Arts, Athletic Venues and Retail & Entertainment), Education (K-12, Higher Ed, Life Long Learning), and Development Mixed Use (Urban Planning, Multi-Family Housing and Workplace/Office).
“I’m excited to be a part of bringing GBBN’s wide-range of design expertise to Louisville,” said Proffitt. “In addition to healthcare, our higher ed, development mixed-use, and entertainment venue design projects have helped make GBBN the well-rounded, full-service architecture firm it’s become in its 50 years of existence.”
