GBBN has always prided itself on getting involved in community events that have a positive impact on a group or organization. This time the organization, the Justin Brown Memorial Foundation, is directly related to one of its own. Here's a little bit of background...
Teen suicide rates are growing at an alarming rate, and until you’re affected personally, you may not realize how real the problem is. Unfortunately, Debbie Brown, GBBN's Director of Client Services, felt and continues to feel and endure that reality on a daily basis.
On April 11, 2006, Debbie’s 14-year-old son, Justin Brown, made the decision to end his life. In an attempt to find some positive in this senseless tragedy, she is trying to educate anyone she can to be aware of the signs of a troubled teen in hopes that no one will have to go through what she did and continues to go through. In April 2007, Debbie established the Justin Brown Memorial Foundation to heighten awareness of teen suicide, as well as provide services to aid in its prevention.
On Monday, September 24th, the Justin Brown Memorial Foundation’s Inaugural Golf Outing will take place at Beckett Ridge Country Club. “A portion of the proceeds will benefit Surviving The Teens, a program of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center,” said Debbie. “I couldn’t be more impressed of the program that is made up of three components: (1) student classroom instruction in 24 schools in Greater Cincinnati; (2) parent information presentations at participating schools and congregations within Greater Cincinnati; and (3) teaching training conducted in participating schools.”
The cost to participate in the outing is $150 per player or $600 per foursome. Single players are welcome and will be paired with other players to make up a foursome. “A lot of people have told me they want to be involved, but they don’t golf,” said Debbie. “We’ve got something for everyone. If someone wants to join us for dinner and entertainment only, the cost is $50 per person.”
Did we mention ‘entertainment’? County music star and award winning singer and songwriter, John Michael Montgomery will be making a special appearance after dinner and is also willing to spend the day golfing with the highest bidder. Local band and crowd favorite, Clueless will also be on hand to provide an evening of music for dancing and fun. MC'ing the event is Reds/FSN broadcaster, Steve Stewart.
“The entire event is being made possible by the generosity of GBBN and endless hours of volunteering by friends and colleagues,” said Debbie. “I couldn’t possibly do it all by myself, and am truly thankful for all of the love and support I’ve been given over the last 16 months.” She added, “I know children like Justin will benefit from all of our hard work and the generosity of those that participate in the outing.”
