Spring has finally arrived, Earth Day is right around the corner, and the final touches are being made regarding sustainable design for new and renovated Cincinnati Public Schools. If those aren’t three good reasons to celebrate, than what is!
On Thursday, April 24th, GBBN will host A Celebration: The Greening of Cincinnati Public Schools at its downtown Cincinnati office from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Architectural renderings of the next segment of CPS schools to be constructed will be on display. GBBN’s Robert Knight who serves as the CPS Sustainable Design Consultant, will give a brief presentation at 6:30 pm. “This is a very exciting time for CPS and our community partners,” said Knight. He added, “CPS has stepped up as a leader in adopting this unique program that will benefit future generations of students here in Cincinnati.”
In fact CPS is being used as a model by Washington DC’s Earth Day Network for sustainable design education programs in 40 schools in cities across the country. “The greening of CPS schools is being noticed by leaders determined to pursue green-building practices when it comes to education-based facilities,” said Knight. “We’re on the leading edge of the sustainable design movement as it relates to the design and construction of schools here in the Greater Cincinnati area, this is definitely a reason to celebrate.” Knight added, “We invite the entire city to come and see the progress being made and meet the architects and community partners who have come together to make this happen.”
The exhibition and reception are open to the public for a $10 donation The event will have building exhibits, program presentations, live music compliments of CPS area high school students, and the opportunity for Q &A with the design architects. The event is co-hosted by ALLY (Alliance for Leadership and Interconnection) and the Architectural Foundation of Cincinnati.
