April 15th doesn't usually conjure up the thought of 'green', unless of course you're receiving a refund from the IRS. However, this April 15th is all about 'green' -- Green Building in Ohio, that is.
GBBN principal and sustainable design market leader, Alan J. Warner, AIA, LEED AP, will speak at the seminar, "Green Building in Ohio: Nuts, Bolts and Beyond" being held in the Queen City at the Holiday Inn Eastgate. The seminar is designed for presidents, vice presidents, architects, engineers, contractors, project managers, developers, bankers, planners, real estate professionals and designers. "From that list, one can see that we're aiming the context of the seminar at decision makers, from design concept to the people writing the checks," said Warner. "The focal point of my piece of the puzzle -- the 'beyond' segment -- asks some pretty significant questions," added Warner. "How far does LEED reach, and the need for us as designers to set aspirational goals of restorative and regenerative design."
The day-long seminar will begin with an overview of sustainability and LEED, followed by green building case studies. The concept of renewable energy for commercial buildings will lead into Warner's presentation on what the next step is regarding green design. "This is going to be a great opportunity for those who want to learn where we're at, and where we're going in terms of sustainability and the future of design," said Warner.
In addition to being GBBN's principal-in-charge of sustainability, Warner serves as one of two active representatives for the state of Ohio to the USGBC Heartland Regional Council. He has served as the 2004 AIA Cincinnati COTE chair and the Hamilton County Green Building Committee; has served on the Cincinnati USGBC Board since 2003; and was the founder and is the current chair of AIA Ohio COTE, whose primary purpose is to engender legislative change so that all Ohio taxpayer funded facilities are designed, constructed and operated in accordance with High Performance Design Principles. In 2005, Warner was an architectural representative on the US Department of Commerce/USGBC First Trade Mission to China.
