Partner Profile: Kenneth W. Greene, AIA, ACHA

This issue's featured Partner is Kenneth W. Greene, AIA, ACHA.

Ken was named Partner in 1999, and oversees the operations of the firm's Lexington office.

Born in Rome (NY), the son of an Air Force father, Ken also lived in Fairbanks (AK) and Pismo Beach (CA) before landing in Lexington (KY). A 1981 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Architecture, Ken’s focus and career pursuit has been in the healthcare area of expertise. He has established working relationships with a number of institutions for continued planning and development of their medical campuses over the years of his practicing as an architect.

What are some of the GBBN projects you have been involved with:

  • University of Kentucky Patient Care Facility – Replacement Hospital
  • King’s Daughters Medical Center - Ashland (KY)
  • St. Claire Medical Center - Morehead (KY)
  • St. Elizabeth Medical Center - Williamstown (KY)

What are your goals for 2007?
The GBBN team has begun the preparation of the construction documents for the new UK Patient Care Facility. My goal is to properly manage the consulting teams in the coordination and development of their documents with GBBN’s. Our team will be delivering two major bid packages this year and I want them to be the best the University has ever received. I also want to share the knowledge with the rest of our healthcare team regarding the UK Patient Care Facility, and be the best Healthcare design team in this region.

What is your personal mantra?
Providing our clients the 'service' and 'support' during our time working together that 'exceeds their expectations'. My involvement with the client and their project is my total focus from the inception to the project completion. I always say that these projects are my children, and I am always checking on their progress of still meeting the needs of my clients. I really do care about creating functionally excellent spaces and buildings for our healthcare clients. I am too much of a perfectionist to ever be satisfied that any project is perfect, but I know I can keep trying to make the next one better.

On a personal note, Ken and his wife of 28 years, Alice, are currently planning the August 4th wedding of their daughter, Katherine (22).  She will graduate in May from Transylvania University with a degree in English and minors in French and Women’s Studies. Katherine has been employed by The Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning in Lexington since May 2006 and will continue there on a full-time basis after graduation. Their son, Adam (16), is a Junior at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School and plays baritone in the marching band. They will be a featured band in the 2007 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York.

In his spare time Ken enjoys the sport of golfing, walking and short visits to Tennessee to the mountains.

A new feature that will appear in upcoming issues of egbbn is the Partner Profile. In each issue, a Partner will be introduced and answer a few questions. If you weren't already familiar with the leaders of our firm, now you'll be able to put a face with a name and a face with various projects (past, present and future) featured.
