The University of Louisville's new men's basketball and women's volleyball practice facility, known as the YUM Center, is approximately 60% complete according to project manager, David Proffitt, AIA. "Over the course of a very few short months of construction, the brand new 60,000 square foot athletic facility is over half complete." He added, "In fact, the stage of construction is at a point where virtually every aspect of construction can be seen." It was with that in mind, that members of the design team coordinated a tour of the site for any interested GBBNers.
"The reason for the tour was to provide design team members, as well as others, the on-site experience up close and personal," said Proffitt. The tour provided a look at details of construction that either were drawn in the office and became issues on site, or changes that were needed to accommodate field conditions. "These are both valuable learning experiences for designers, young and old alike," added Proffitt.
The first floor of the practice facility includes two practice courts, men and women's locker rooms, men and women's treatment and rehabilitation areas, weight and cardio spaces, press conference areas and Lacrosse locker room facilities. On the second floor are men and women's administrative areas with views of the practice courts.
The project is scheduled for completion later this year.
