Birk and Schechter Present: Linking Facilities Data with BIM Model

Often owners are wondering:  Are BIM Models only useful in construction?  What do you do with a BIM model other than coordination, construction, and fabrication?   Why should Facilities Managers care about BIM?

Matt Birk, principal at GBBN and Andrew Schecter, project manager within the in4mation division, answered these questions and more at the annual IFMA Conference.  They discussed the value of the "I" in Building Information Modeling (BIM) and how Archibus and Revit link their data together.  In the presentation, they demonstrated what is needed to get up to speed faster when new projects are delivered to the Owner by the Design / Construction team.  They showed how information contained in the Design Model can be linked to a CAFM database. update the CAFM database and the Model updates.  The ability to harvest data from sources such as a BIM models or Commissioning data can help Building Owners get their buildings online faster with Room Finish data, Preventative Maintenance procedures, Warranty info, etc...
