Architectural Foundation Honors Ron Kull With Inaugural Hammer Award

The Architectural Foundation of Cincinnati (AFC) recently announced that Ron Kull, FAIA, a Senior Planner with GBBN, is the recipient of its inaugural Hammer Award.

The Hammer Award was established by the AFC to recognize a practitioner who has made a consistent and significant contribution to the built environment in the Greater Cincinnati region over at least a 20-year-period.

According to AFC president Michael Moose, AIA, “Practitioners include architects of all disciplines, designers, artists, engineers, developers, builders, planners, officials – anyone who has taken a hands-on-role in creating the built environment.”

Before joining GBBN, Kull was the former University Architect at the University of Cincinnati where he successfully managed the physical transformation of the campus. Prior to joining the University he was the Supervisor of Architecture and Facility Management for the City of Cincinnati. He served 22 years with the City directing the transformation of the CBD and most neighborhood business districts. As a GBBN senior planner, he assists with master and strategic planning as it relates to campus building projects and devotes time to campus “edge” development. Presently he is the Authorized Representative for Cincinnati Public Schools on their major school building program.

Kull is a long time member of SCUP (Society of College and University Planners), AUA (Association of University Architects), and the Urban Land Institute.

“All of the nominees for the Hammer Award were exceptionally strong, and it was not an easy decision,” said Sue Ann Painter, AFC executive director. “Ultimately, the board vote went to Ron Kull because members were particularly impressed with the quality of his accomplishments and with his “hands-on approach” to project supervision.”

The Hammer Award will be presented at the Cincinnati Design Awards (CDAs) event on November 9th, at the Hilton Netherland Plaza Hotel in Cincinnati. AIA Cincinnati Chapter is accepting reservations.
