James Hall, an existing dormitory built in 1917, was recently renovated. To ensure success on this project, the design team collaborated with the college and its students to identify the design issues and provide the most efficient and effective solution.

The renovation included renovating multiple dorm room layouts, creating living spaces that support guided learning, community and collaboration. Berea's green college standards were followed by recycling demolished building materials, providing recyclable building products, providing energy efficient mechanical systems, using heat recovery units, upgrading all existing insulation values and providing daylighting to interior corridors and gathering spaces.
