Life Safety Documentation
client: Hamilton County
markets : Development/Mixed Use
services : in4mation

The nearly four million square feet of space managed by Hamilton County is visited daily by thousands of people, including employees, contractors, and the public at large. It is critical for life safety information to be readily available to communicate actions to take in the event of an emergency. Partnering with the in4mation division of GBBN Architects, the County implemented the Life Safety project to capture life safety information such as the locations of pull stations, fire extinguishers, exit signage, AEDs, eye wash stations, and other critical equipment.   Egress routes with locations of all life safety equipment are posted on walls on each floor of the County’s facilities. Phase I of the project is now complete and 1.4 million sf of Hamilton County space has life safety information easily accessible.

Needs
  • Evaluate and document official egress routes for County facilities
  • Post updated and accurate egress and life safety floor plans in public areas of the County buildings
  • Document the location of all life safety equipment
  • Leverage existing floor plans documented in the ARCHIBUS/FM Space Management solution

Solution
Together, in4mation and the Hamilton County Department of Facilities gathered the necessary life safety information to include in the County’s CAFM system. The proper egress routes for each building were studied and determined by a GBBN code specialist, and members of the in4mation team updated the drawings.   Drawings were printed and posted in specially designed signage for public display throughout the County’s facilities. The project has resulted in the:

  • Standardization of life safety signage throughout the County’s facilities
  • Documentation of locations of all life safety equipment and safe rooms
  • Review of all egress routes by a GBBN Architects code specialist
  • Increased visibility of life safety and egress impacts from project work and reconfiguration of space
  • Evaluate and document official egress routes for County facilities
