The vision of Covington Square started with 10 city blocks in the Urban Core of downtown historic Covington, Kentucky.  Leveraging previous success in the Covington commercial office market, which established the area immediately North of the site as a desirable residential neighborhood with projects like the Ascent, this location was the next logical step in Covington’s rebirth.

GBBN began with a block-by-block assessment of the existing building fabric, evaluating flexibility and efficiency of existing historic buildings for adaptive reuse.  New buildings were integrated to relate to street level context, utilizing more contemporary materials and forms above, to create striking views and desirable commercial and residential spaces.

Exterior public spaces were a high priority, to transform the area into a walkable urban neighborhood with opportunities to live, work, shop and play, all supported by ample public and dedicated parking.  Green spaces, tree-lined streets, public plazas and pedestrian streets connect to the riverfront and the Covington Business District.  Vertically integrated mixed-use buildings and a variety of unit types align with diverse demographic needs of residents and to suit their entertainment choices, including restaurants and a regional Performing Arts Center.
