Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh / Service Enclosure
Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Pittsburgh Chapter AIA Award
ennsylvania Chapter AIA Award
This project facilitates the relocation of existing internal facility services to the exterior of the building. The service enclosure functions to accommodate loading docks for vehicular loading and delivery as well as material waste and recycle management.
The service enclosure is sited in a very prominent public location which serves as the entry to the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, The Carnegie Natural History Museum and The Carnegie Museum of Art. The enclosure site also forms one end of the Carnegie Museum of Art sculpture garden.
Due to this prominent location the enclosure has a dual function of not only serving the utilitarian needs of the overall institution but also addressing and orchestrating the public experience to these public institutions.
