Since 1878, Cincinnati Music Hall has been an architectural icon, playing host to cultural, exhibition and athletic events for more than a century. Originally constructed for the Cincinnati Industry Exhibition, the Music Hall is currently the home of the Cincinnati Symphony & Pops Orchestra, May Festival Chorus, and Cincinnati Opera.

Starting in 2007, GBBN worked with the Cincinnati Arts Association and a variety of specialty design, theater, acoustical, and engineering consultants, to conduct facilities conditions assessments and perform minor mechanical and architectural renovations to improve functionality.

From 2009 until December 2014, GBBN in collaboration with Ennead Architects and other Performing Arts experts, studied the feasibility of a comprehensive revitalization to improve flexibility and “right-size” the facility for today’s performing arts market. The renovation will improve acoustics, improve dexterity of the performance hall for the primary arts programs, and improve patron experience. Envisioned to position the facility for another 100 years of cultural performances and public events, the revitalization plan will align both front-of-house and back-of-house operations with the best-in-class halls around the world. Using the design team's initial studies and documentation, the selected Music Hall project team will complete the revitalization.
