Carnegie Mellon University / 4721 Fifth Avenue, Marketing and Communications Building

Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Scope: Full Architectural Services

Size: 4,000 SF/Addition
       22,000 SF/Renovation

The project creates a new collaborative hub for all of the Marketing and Communications staff of Carnegie Mellon University. The project creates a new universally accessible entrance and provides a new vertical circulation system in a compact modern addition. The addition deliberately defines an aesthetic character separate from the historic structure and delicately touches the building with minimal disturbance to the existing facade.

The renovation of the existing space incorporates an existing skylight and historic stair as a circulation feature to open office and meeting spaces throughout the building. Open floor plans and glass partitions allow for high visibility encouraging impromptu sessions in one of the varied meeting spaces. Technology, white-boards, and movable partitions allow spaces to transform with flexibility for meeting, video-editing, and video conferencing. Construction is expected to be complete in the middle of 2017.
