Point Park University / Center for Media Innovation

Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Scope: Interior Fitout

Project Size: 4,000 SF Renovation

Located at a prominent corner of downtown Pittsburgh, the project activates an important intersection within Point Park University’s Academic Center. The project provides an urban stage for Point Park students to develop and practice journalism and communication skills. The space contains a video broadcast studio, a radio studio, a photography studio, a voiceover recording studio, control room, classroom space, offices, green room and student collaboration space. Stringent acoustic performance criteria, adaptable and tunable lighting and tight coordination of equipment requirements and building systems infrastructure were all needed to deliver a successful design.

GBBN developed an innovative layout and design that maximizes the usage of the space. The deployment of a giant pivoting wall and two fully retractable walls convert several specific use paces into one large multi-functional event space which can host diverse activities such as lectures and student gallery shows.
