University of Pittsburgh / Salk Annex Entrance Renovation

Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Scope: Full Architectural Services

Size: 3,000 SF/Renovation

The new entrance canopy and lobby for Salk Annex at the University of Pittsburgh provides an inviting patient entrance to the Dental School. Addressing building system issues, providing ADA compliant access, and implementing a highly visible entry point contributed to the reorganized entry sequence.

A crisp clean design aesthetic with accents of wood and glass progress visitors from the new outdoor canopy through to the lobby and waiting area. The materials pallet was deliberately subtle to allow visitors a clear orientation to the building which serves academic and dental patient functions.

The project incorporated a complete replacement the lobby mechanical system in order to address air infiltration issues. GBBN worked closely with our consultant team to ensure the mechanical delivery system addressed the building system difficulties while providing visitors a clear passageway and additional protection from the weather. Completion of construction is expected in late 2016.
