This replacement hospital takes the place of existing undersized and antiquated facilities in the heart of Beijing.  In doing so, it embraces a rigorous organizational clarity and projects the image of a progressive community hospital.

4-story outpatient and emergency wings face Beijing’s Third Ring Road for visibility and easy access.  Surgery and other medical technology departments are located behind, surmounted by a pair of inpatient towers.  The principal entries are found on a strong central axis that links the various building volumes and finds expression in glassy family lounges that project from the center of the inpatient towers.  East and west facades are crisp white stone with dispersed window openings, while south facades employ louvered screens to reduce solar glare and heat gain.

The principal building is configured for construction around the existing hospital without disruption of daily operations, crucially important to maintain the quality of care.  Administration and infectious diseases buildings are constructed following demolition of the existing hospital.

This project designed in association with China IPPR International Engineering Corporation (中国中元国际工程公司).
