China Aerospace Construction Group / Langfang Hospital

Location: Langfang City, China

Scope: Conceptual Design

Size: 1500 Beds

Patient-centered care is implemented with military precision in GBBN’s competition-winning design for a new hospital complex south of Beijing. GBBN healthcare designers in Cincinnati and Beijing worked together with evidence-based design principles to craft a generously landscaped campus with a total of 1500 inpatients beds as well as outpatient and specialty clinics. The highly ordered arrangement of this military medical center ensures maximum access to the healing effects of daylight and nature for patients and staff alike. The design reflects GBBN’s rigorous attention to environmental quality and operational efficiency in healthcare projects large and small in both China and US.

The new People’s Liberation Army Second Artillery Corps General Hospital complex is located in a new development zone outside Langfang city, southeast of Beijing. GBBN positioned the main hospital with a generous entry plaza in the center of the 20 hectare (49 acre) site, flanked by specialty hospitals, research and support facilities. All buildings are linked underground for parking access, deliveries and utility services.

GBBN undertook the Langfang competition in partnership with China Aerospace Construction Group, a subsidiary of CASIC (China Aerospace Science & Industry Corporation). CASIC is a major Chinese defense contractor, and China Aerospace Construction Group designs and builds military and other facilities throughout China.
