Consolidating services into a freestanding ambulatory specialty center on a tight urban site was a catalyst to focus on a different delivery of care model that highlighted the innovation and research taking place at the institution in an efficient and patient-centered environment. GBBN implemented evidence based design and Lean processes to develop physical design responses that would complement a new set of operational goals. Promoting efficiency and innovation in operations and increasing opportunities for collaboration both inter and intradisciplinary.
The resulting design is built around the concept of exploring the forest, field, hillside, canopy, wildlife, clouds and garden, and celebrates the unique character of place in the region. All of these illusions are represented throughout the interior in a more realistic technique to permit the children’s imagination to explore the spectrum of realism and abstractions.
