Mission
Cincinnati Children's mission was to improve pediatric healthcare. To pursue excellence through a commitment to family centered care and to improve their ranking in the nation's top pediatric facilities, the medical center expanded services and recruited top medical leaders. The strategic plan also included an ambitious building program.
Helping Them Achieve Their Mission
The building program afforded the design team the opportunity to remake the campus. Over the last 18 years, GBBN has led the design of over $1 billion of construction on projects including a new education center, emergency center, and chapel; an expanded research center, a clinical building to replace the original hospital, and an addition to the visitor's parking garage, just to list a few.
Collaboration was critical to the success of all of these projects. As the lead architect, GBBN managed the client, as well as a complex team of consultants. The architectural charge was to create a more harmonious campus, designing new buildings that complemented existing ones and renovating aging facilities to accommodate growth. The design also placed the family’s needs as a top priority. Thoughtful wayfinding, views to the exterior, memorable spaces, graphic signage, and carefully landscaped areas were all used to welcome families and ease the stress of the hospital visit.
Value
We strive to develop value for all of our clients. Our goal at Cincinnati Children’s was to help them achieve their mission. Outside sources point to success. According to Press Ganey, a resource that measures customer satisfaction in health care, satisfaction has risen with the opening of the new buildings. As published in US News & World Report in 2003, CCHMC went from one of the top 100 pediatric facilities in the country to one of the top ten.
