Eulett Center Dedicated

The Charles A. Eulett Center was dedicated on Saturday, May 10, to a capacity crowd on a beautiful day in Adams County, near West Union, Ohio.

The center for research and education enhances the Cincinnati Museum Center's Edge of Appalachia program on the 14,000 acre preserve jointly owned by CMC and The Nature Conservancy.  The facility has been designed with flexible spaces for educational programs for children and adults, laboratory research, and even executive and corporate retreat opportunities, with short-term accommodations for researchers and staff who will take advantage of this remarkable ecosystem - all on a hillside overlooking the Brush Creek. In close proximity to Shawnee State Park, there are approximately three public access areas, summer camps for 4th-8th graders (already filled for 2008), and advanced naturalists programs.

The dedication event, tour and nature hike was highlighted by remarks by Doug McDonald, President & CEO of Cincinnati Museum Center, Ohio State Senator Tom Neihaus, and key staff of CMC, including Chris Bedel, the Director of the Edge of Appalachia Preserve.

GBBN's role on the project began with assisting CMC with a grant application in 2004 to the State of Ohio, resulting in primary funding for the $2m project for construction to begin in Spring of 2007.  The facility was designed using many principles of sustainability, including features of locally-quarried stone for the exterior, reclaimed wood and natural cedar siding, and the siting of the building itself which minimized required site clearing and took best advantage of topography, views and sun angles.

Milford-based Perkins/Carmak Construction served as the General Contractor for the project, and consulting engineers included KLH Engineers, GOP Limited and Site Development Consultants.   Availability, a detailed description of amenities, and rates for renting the facility are available on CMC's web site at: http://www.cincymuseum.org/explore_our_sites/edge_appalachia/eulett_center.asp
