Principal Anne Chen featured in Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
GBBN Principal Anne Chen was recently featured in a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article about renovation of Hillman Library at the University of Pittsburgh. The article discusses how the changes will help prepare the library, originally dedicated in 1968, for the next 50 years of scholarship. Aging university library systems are facing a collective problem: How to remain vital hubs for active learning and not just repositories for books? People, not just paper, keep libraries alive and today’s students require a variety of workspaces, from quiet and focused, to collaborative. In October, another GBBN project, the renovation of Carnegie Mellon University’s Sorrells Library, won a design award from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Pittsburgh. It’s an honor to help chart the future of these amazing institutions and to share our design point of view: that libraries belong at the center of academic, civic, and social life.
