Rockdale Academy Official Dedication & Ribbon Cutting

Rockdale Academy was officially dedicated at a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by over 600 people, including Governor Bob Taft, Secretary of State, Ken Blackwell, Cincinnati Mayor Charlie Luken, CPS Deputy Superintendent, Rosa Blackwell, members of the Board of Education, and countless interested citizens.

Rockdale Academy is a Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade project designed for 650 students. The three-story building is the first urban school structure built in the state of Ohio under the Ohio School Facilities Commission Design Manual.

The new 86,160 square foot structure, designed by GBBN/WA Architects, is located on the existing six-acre school property in Avondale. The existing urban site will be utilized for optimum playgrounds, parking and athletic fields. The new building has seven groupings of four classrooms, each surrounding an extended learning space for multiple educational programs. A state-of-the-art technology system is supported from a dynamic media center, all with community availability in mind. The new gymnasium and dining room can be centered with a two-sided stage for performances, lectures and community events. Unique for Rockdale Academy is the inclusion of a fully staffed regional health clinic run by Children
