St. Aloysius Breaks Ground

The St. Aloysius Team celebrated the groundbreaking for the new addition and expansion, the first modification to the facility since it was built in 1861. Once an historic orphanage, St. Aloysius is now a services program with an elementary school curriculum for children with behavioral and emotional issues. The Charter School supports children from public school systems around Hamilton County, and their families providing a variety of programs.

The project will include improving classroom and administrative space, incorporating sustainable design and high-efficiency systems, all while preservation of the building’s exterior character and leveraging the visibility on the prominent site. The design takes best advantage of existing spaces, develops new spaces to serve community needs, and integrates a sensitive addition of dedicated classrooms and program space most appropriate for the learning environment.

GBBN Architects has partnered with St. Aloysius since 2004, providing master planning and traditional architectural design services, as well as providing financing consultation on ways to fund the project through grants and Historic and New Markets Tax Credits.
