Crystal McCloyn Receives Passive House Fellowship

GBBN’s Crystal McCloyn has recently been awarded the Passive House Network (PHN) Education Fellowship.

PHN, which promotes education that facilitates the growth of the healthy, high-performing building strategy known as “Passive House,” established the fellowship “to help increase Black architect and engineer participation in the Passive House sector.” This fellowship will enable Crystal to undertake a 10-12-week training course and test to become a Certified Passive House Consultant. It will also provide mentoring opportunities to connect her to others in the industry.

Committed to bringing sustainable, resilient design strategies to every project, Crystal is particularly excited to start the PHN coursework. “I want to dive deep into the thinking and strategy behind Passive House,” she says. “Its principles are broadly applicable, so whether a project is pursuing certification or not, it’s a strategy that can help us think about how to improve the performance of any building.”

GBBN’s Director of Sustainability and Resilience, Tiffany Broyles Yost, who encouraged Crystal to apply for the fellowship says, “Passive House design offers so many benefits, lower energy use, great interior air quality, and quiet spaces. It’s really an essential sustainability strategy, so it’s exciting to see Crystal – and others in our company – learning how to deploy it in our work.”
