GBBN Wins Craftsmanship Award

GBBN was recently honored with a Best Craftsmanship award for its design of the Tianjin Community Center. The award was bestowed by the Vanke Corporation—the largest development firm in China (with 500-600 ongoing projects any given year)— as part of its annual recognition of the best projects completed for the company.

Once a nearly abandoned sports facility, the renovated Tianjin Community Center weaves together the area’s industrial and natural heritage. Sitting at the edge of China’s Bohai Bay, the building combines dark gray Mongolian stone with Core-Ten Steel, glass walls, and a low-profile canopy that seems to float above the building and water. The community center, which houses an ecological art museum, music hall, and reception area, will form the heart of the neighborhood that is quickly growing around it.

GBBN’s design of the Anzhen Port Apartments was also featured in Vanke’s annual selected works publication.
