Ribbon cut on new Trager Family Jewish Community Center in Louisville

“Our architects from GBBN heard every word you said when you told us what you wanted in the next JCC,” Sarah Klein Wagner, president and CEO of Jewish Community of Louisville told the audience at last week’s ribbon cutting. “They built within the building a heart, a mind, a soul, and a body.”

As architects and designers hearing that we hit a project out of the park fills us with joy! As Louisvillians, we take enormous pride in knowing this new center will positively impact people our city for years to come.

The project’s concept—that the Trager Family Jewish Community Center is a place of unity that nourishes the body, mind, and soul of all Louisvillians, no matter their age, faith, or ability—is physically expressed in their new home. The building is organized around the three core experiences at the center of the Trager Family Jewish Community Center’s mission: the Roth Family Learning Center (for early learning and adult classes); fitness and aquatics; and social programming, such as a theater and a café. These three components are linked by an airy public space at the core of the building dubbed “The Heart.” Its centrality lets you see many activities at once, like swimming, dance practice, or kids playing. It’s also a place to meet friends and build community.

“This new center is a beacon for all of what is good and productive,” said Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear at the ribbon cutting. “Today we are here together to celebrate the fact that you are creating better lives for the citizens of Louisville and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.”
