Tree Pittsburgh wins COTE Award from AIA Pennsylvania

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Pennsylvania has recognized Tree Pittsburgh with a Committee on the Environment (COTE) Award. The COTE Award honors projects that uplift the principles of the AIA’s Framework for Design Excellence.

A Seattle-based jury reviewed 34 submissions to select winners for the inaugural AIA Pennsylvania Architectural Excellence COTE award.

One of just five projects honored with a Design Excellence COTE Citation, Tree Pittsburgh was honored for its particular sensitivity to economy, resources, and energy measures of the Framework for Design Excellence.

“Excellent utilization of resources to create an incredibly simple yet beautiful net zero building,” said the jury. “A great example of simplicity and sustainability on a limited budget.”

Dedicated to growing the urban forest, Tree Pittsburgh employees and volunteers plant and nurture 100,000 trees each year. GBBN designed a net-zero headquarters that features modular, prefabricated construction, photovoltaic solar panels, strategic views, and outdoor access.
