Work Begins on Cincinnati Children’s College Hill Campus

Cincinnati Children’s celebrated Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day by announcing that it has begun work on a project to transform the system’s pediatric and adolescent mental health services with a new, five-story expansion of its College Hill campus.

By creating a greater variety of shared spaces outside of patient rooms, the project creates more opportunities for families to become involved with their child or adolescent’s mental health treatment.

This is especially important for youth seeking inpatient treatment. “Parents often feel they don’t have a sense of what happens within the building,” observed GBBN Principal, Aaron Anderson. “We wanted to create a more transparent environment, so people could more easily see inside while also featuring opportunities to find support and resources through the Family Resource Center, a more accessible café, and other shared, therapeutic spaces where family members can be there for their loved one.”

While encouraging visitors to linger, the new building has a softness to it – natural materials, rounded edges, ample sunlight, views of the landscape – that will make it a haven for patients and their families alike.
