Mercy Health's Fairfield Hospital 5th floor creates
a new benchmark for patient experience.

Modular walls in the unit’s 29 patient rooms help the spaces feel less clinical by bringing in warmth, texture, and art. Whiteboards and televisions are behind glass and easy to clean. The modular system allows in-wall gasses and other medical technology to be switched out quickly and safely. The result is a high performing unit that has the flexibility to adapt and help Mercy deliver the best care possible—now and in the future. Uniquely designed entry alcoves were incorporated into each patient room, creating privacy for the patient from the main corridor but allowing visibility from the nurses’ station. A respite area for visitors and families to work or make calls is acoustically private but visually connected to the unit.

The Physicians especially love the space. They’re using it as a benchmark to compare to other places.
