It’s #ProjectShareFriday. And this is the Lake West 5 Exhibition Hall.
With a new skin, what was once a closed, blue box is transformed by transparent, glass curtain walls on top of which sit giant blocks of illuminated, translucent glass. Shifting degrees of visibility expand the public realm while creating a tranquil interior.
Check out that before/after.

“Adolescents and children are struggling with unprecedented levels of depression, anxiety, and other mental and behavioral health conditions… When an inpatient or day hospital program is needed to help cope with a mental illness or life crisis, the space should also be therapeutic.”
Angela Mazzi has a new insight on the value of milieu space within behavioral health facilities.

It’s another beautiful day to hang out in another beautiful museum! Today we’re documenting our work in the @Taftmuseum. It not only contains a collection of art, it is a piece of art itself. #LoveThisHouse

We got to hang out at @cincyartmuseum, where we documented our transformation of the Ancient Middle East Gallery. More natural light helps take in the glow of @shahzia.sikander Sikander’s painted glass, Caesura.

Designed by Robert Venturi, @pennstate’s Oak Building was a beautiful but underused icon. It has now found new life as the Marriott Foundation Building (part of Penn State’s School of Hospitality Management). How did GBBN’s renovation remain sensitive to this architecturally significant place? It begins by understanding, restoring, and building upon Venturi’s original design intent.

Love seeing @bradymusiccenter in @BDCnetwork’s #DailyFive!
“Opened in mid-2021, intends to reshape how people throughout the region engage with public space on the banks of the Ohio River… The inside venue provides clear sightlines from all vantage points, whether from the floor or the balconies. That has been achieved with structural V columns that occupy less floor space and are less visually obstructive than straight, vertical columns… Outside, the venue features perforated, color-shifting metal panels that create a dynamic facade day or night.”

“That’s where we come in as architects and designers,” Ted adds. “With our design knowledge, we can encourage decision makers to make sustainability a priority, by showing them the options that are available to them.”

“The arts give our communities so much more than entertainment,” says Marcene Kinney, GBBN’s Director of Arts. “We’re proud to be creative partners with some of Cincinnati’s most creative and dynamic arts organizations. We’re equally proud to support ArtsWave’s efforts to keep the arts alive in our city.”

“We’re not going to have another opportunity like this for 60 to 80 years,” says GBBN’s Steve Kenat. “We believe strongly that the future of the city lies in unlocking the potential for downtown to be able to grow. We can do this better.”
We have a window of time. In the next 18 months—as the existing design goes from ~25% complete to more substantially complete—we need to ensure that the design contributes to the life of Cincinnati for decades to come. Now is the time for long-term vision.
Thanks, @cincinnatibusinesscourier + @ChrisCinciBiz for sharing our vision.
