The Cincinnati Preservation Association (CPA) recently recognized our work at the Taft Museum of Art with a Restoration Award.

Presented during the CPA’s annual Preservation Awards, a ceremony dedicated to the celebration of outstanding accomplishments in local preservation, the Restoration Award recognizes owners and developers of historic buildings that comply with the Secretary of the Interiors Standards for restoration.

“(This) is an amazing example of excellence in restoration and is an example of amazing stewardship of a National Historic Landmark,” the CPA said, describing the restoration of the Taft Historic House.

The oldest structure still standing in downtown Cincinnati, the house has gone through a comprehensive restoration. After exploratory probes had revealed issues with water infiltration, the building’s façade and windows were removed piece by piece, so they could be evaluated and repaired or replaced. During this process the wood structure beneath was stabilized, the wall cavities were insulated, and a rainscreen was added.

Responding to news of the award, GBBN’s Director of Arts, Marcene Kinney, AIA said, “It is wonderful when innovative thinking and modern technology can prepare buildings like the Taft Museum of Art for the next chapters in its life. Much of the work won’t be obvious, but it was essential to preserving the 200-year-old house for another century.”

The Taft Museum of Art also recently won a Cincinnati Design Award. Read about it here.
