Amanda Markovic Talks Health Equity and Architecture Around the World
GBBN Principal, Amanda Markovic recently took part in an international conversation about health equity and architecture. Hosted by AIA Pittsburgh in collaboration with the Pittsburgh Platform, the event was called “Pittsburgh + Stockholm International Conversations on Design: Health Equity, Architecture, and the Value of Design.”
Along with Pittsburgh-based Jeff Murray, FAIA and Stockholm-based Fredrik Hansson and Anna Sunnerö, Amanda did a fast-paced, Pecha Kucha-style presentation about the responsibilities and opportunities architects have in leveraging design to serve communal and environmental health. Amanda’s presentation stressed GBBN’s commitment to the health of those who use (or live in the vicinity of our projects) while highlighting projects that develop a multi-pronged approach to sustainability and well-being.
Other presenters, like Anna Sunnerö, emphasized the physical and mental health benefits of living close to nature and the obligation of enhancing access to such resources. After the short, formal presentations, AIA Pittsburgh Executive Director, Michelle Fanzo facilitated a free-ranging conversation about health equity and design.
The event was the first in what promises to be an engaging series of conversations. You can view Amanda’s presentation and the whole conversation here.
