City officials and community leaders broke ground Monday on the $250 million Uptown Gateway, a mixed-use development at the corner of Cincinnati’s Martin Luther King Drive (MLK) and Reading Road.

Located just across from University of Cincinnati’s (UC) 1819 Building, the project is part of a transformative investment seeking to establish an Innovation Corridor that will create jobs in technology, biotech, and similar high-growth industries while retaining talented people in Cincinnati.

Spurring plans to build two mixed-use developments and a new National Institute of Health (NIOSH) research facility at adjacent corners, Uptown Consortium’s vision of fostering growth by reengaging this corner of MLK Drive and Reading Road with vibrant and varied activity and effective transportation options is already bearing fruit.

After working with Uptown Consortium to create the masterplan that will guide the whole development, GBBN is now designing UC’s Digital Futures complex, which will anchor the project. The 180,000 square-foot space is designed to connect UC researchers and students with industries focused on developing solutions in the digital world. GBBN is excited to create a learning environment that will foster new relationships and unleash creative solutions to some of our community’s and our country’s most pressing problems.
