Ballet Breaks Ground
The Margaret and Michael Valentine Center for Dance has officially broken ground. Dancers, donors, and designers joined Mayor John Cranley and other city leaders on Tuesday to kick off the arrival of a new cultural institution at Cincinnati’s front door.
“Today is the physical beginning of our future,” said Cincinnati Ballet President and CEO Scott Altman. “This will be a beacon for the arts and culture in our city and beyond.”
The center’s proximity to the city’s major interstate thoroughfare sends a powerful message to all who pass by: Cincinnati values the arts. More studios, flexible spaces for events, enhanced amenities for dancers, views of the city, and a location steps away from Cincinnati’s popular Eden Park, the new Margaret and Michael Center for Dance positions a pioneering dance organization to push the medium ever further and continue its growth.
“The ballet is a cornerstone of the arts in Cincinnati,” said Otto M. Budig, a major city arts donor and former board chair of the Cincinnati Ballet. “It’s a global example of dance innovation.”
“The experiences in this building will change the future of the art form,” said Cincinnati Ballet artistic director Victoria Morgan. “I feel a rush of possibility.”
