The event lawn adjacent to the Andrew J Brady ICON Music Center has officially opened and is ready to host its first live concert. The Foo Fighters take the outdoor stage on July 28.

“Smale Riverfront Park represents one of Cincinnati’s greatest achievements, and it is made better by the addition of this new event lawn designed specifically to host and celebrate live music,” says Cincinnati Parks Director Kara Kish.

Few things bring people together like music and the Andrew J Brady ICON Music Center and outdoor event space give the city and the region a unique concert going experience. Attendees at the ribbon cutting event got a sneak peek at the views patrons and performers will enjoy.

“There were two or three sites where the ICON could be placed,” explains Scott Kyle, part of GBBN’s ICON Music Center design team. “This site was the smallest of the parcels, but it offered the best views from the building to the Ohio River and the Roebling suspension bridge. From the park, patrons get views of the urban tapestry, including the ICON Music Center, Paul Brown Stadium, Race Street, and the central business district. The music and the placement of the building create the backdrop for people to come together and engage with public space.” The design of the ICON’s outdoor space allows it to be used as a park even when no events are scheduled.

We worked with the Joint Banks Steering Committee, the Cincinnati Reds, the Cincinnati Bengals, the City of Cincinnati, Hamilton County, and Cincinnati Parks to ensure both the indoor and outdoor venues stay true to the Banks Masterplan by adding cultural activities along the river.
