GBBN recently won top honors from American Institute of Architects (AIA) Indiana’s 2021 Design Awards, an annual event that recognizes the best architecture in Indiana.

GBBN’s winning entry – a renovation and expansion of the Hillrom Innovation Center – was celebrated by jurors for its “thoughtfulness, rigor, resolution, and restraint,” its “savvy allocation of resources,” and its “laser-focused attention to… detailing.”

A notable feature of the project, which impressed the jurors, was that the design team identified a nearly cost-neutral opportunity to meet the client’s needs with a smaller addition than Hillrom had initially planned while improving efficiency and experience of the whole office.

“We appreciated that the architects proposed a small addition coupled with a greater renovation as a cost-efficient means of organizing the greater complex and better communicating the public-facing mission of the company,” one juror said.

“Its bright, open spaces and its crystalline expression imbue the entire campus with a sense of the occupant’s culture of innovation and collaboration,” another juror added.
