Researcher of the Year: Shan Jiang Named HCD 10 Award Winner
Healthcare Design magazine has named GBBN Director of Research and Associate Principal Shan Jiang, Ph.D., their HCD 10 award winner in the research category.
Shan’s impressive breadth of work—leading high-impact post-occupancy evaluations, developing scalable toolkits for behavioral health environments, and synthesizing pandemic lessons into resilient design strategies for critical care settings—earned her a place on HCD’s 2026 roster of award winners.
“We couldn’t be more excited for Shan to receive this recognition from Healthcare Design,” says GBBN Director of Healthcare, Michael Lied. “Shan’s approach to evidence-based design surfaces new insights that transform outcomes for providers, health systems, and patients. She advances healthcare design through rigorous leadership, cross-institutional collaboration, and the translation of evidence into practice.”
The annual HCD 10 recognizes standout industry professionals. Shan contributes editorial leadership as co-editor of HERD Journal; regularly publishes research in peer-reviewed journals; and is frequently invited to share her insights at national conferences such as the Healthcare Design Conference and Expo, EDRA, and Healthcare Facilities Symposium and Expo. She also oversaw the research and submission process that led to GBBN’s 2025 Platinum Touchstone Award from the Center for Health Design for our work on the renovation of the University of Cincinnati’s Medical Center Main Entrance. In addition to leading multidisciplinary, cross-institutional research efforts, Shan also provides mentorship and best-practice training to GBBN’s growing group of researchers helping to advance healthcare design at GBBN and across the healthcare design industry.
Congratulations, Shan!
