Ribbon Cut at UPMC Shadyside

UPMC Shadyside recently cut the ribbon on the final floor of a five-floor renovation of their west wing inpatient unit.

The day marked an exciting milestone in this multi-year, multi-phase project that transformed the way physicians, nurses, specialists, and staff connect and collaborate to deliver excellent care. The project also focused on providing restful environments for patients. Electrochromic glass in the doors of patient rooms—adjustable from transparent to opaque—enhances privacy. Wall construction for better acoustic performance filters out corridor noise. Sub-wait alcoves provide out-of-the-way areas for staff to check messages and for visiting family to step away from the patient’s room.

Says Mickey LeRoy, part of the GBBN design team who worked on the project: “The clean and simple design is an amazing example of a modern, innovative patient unit fit within the constraints of an existing hospital building.”
