Tree Pittsburgh Wins Honor at Cincinnati Design Awards
From an unassuming, former industrial site along the Allegheny River, the new headquarters of Tree Pittsburgh is garnering attention in Cincinnati. The GBBN design recently received the highest level of recognition—an AIA Honor Award—at the 2019 Cincinnati Design Awards (CDA).
Each year, the CDAs convene a distinguished nationwide jury of designers, to judge the best projects submitted by local architecture, interiors, landscape, and experiential graphic designers. The Honor Award is reserved for designs that are “conceived and executed at the highest levels of the profession…(that) make our environment more functional, beautiful, and inspiring for everyone.”
Impressed with the way the design “took advantage of a tough site to champion sustainability,” the jury praised the use of modular, prefabricated construction techniques to minimize soil disturbance on Tree Pittsburgh’s brownfield site. They also praised the steps taken to reduce energy and water-consumption, and the use of photovoltaic cells to create net-positive energy project.
