The new headquarters for Tree Pittsburgh continues to win architectural accolades. Not long after taking home Honor Awards from AIA Cincinnati and AIA Pittsburgh, the GBBN design received Honorable Mention in the Green Building category of The Architect’s Newspaper’s Best Design Awards.

Each year, The Architect’s Newspaper assembles a distinguished jury to select the best designs completed or initiated across North America, based on criteria such as innovation, the creative use of new technology, sustainability, and overall design.

While providing a sustainable headquarters for a nonprofit dedicated to growing Pittsburgh’s urban forest, the project reclaims a former industrial site along the Allegheny River. The project used modular, prefabricated construction techniques to minimize soil disruption while creating a net-positive energy building with a tight thermal envelope that is powered by photovoltaic cells.
