Mixed-Use, All Sustainable

Bridging the Gap Development, Fifth & Dinwiddie East

To Project Types

Pittsburgh, PA | 40,000 sf

Forming a bridge between Pittsburgh’s Uptown and Hill Districts, Fifth & Dinwiddie East prioritizes sustainability in everything it does.

An investment in an under-resourced community, Fifth & Dinwiddie East fosters community and economic opportunity while tending to the environment. Nearly doubling the size of a former public works building, the project creates traditional office space; coworking spaces that are available to the community at reduced rates; a clean energy job training hub; and a corner coffee shop to serve a busy commuter corridor.

Opening onto a welcoming public terrace, the second-floor conference room is an amenity for tenants during the day and the neighborhood in the evening as a reservable community room. The terrace connects to a vibrant public plaza across Dinwiddie Street and to a Bus Rapid Transit line along Fifth Avenue.

Through passive house design, the building not only minimizes its carbon footprint and the energy costs of future tenants, but also strives for net-zero energy with rooftop solar arrays. With infrastructure to encourage healthy decisions (bike storage, appealing stairs, welcoming gathering spaces), the design—which is tracking for Fitwel certification—will support the wellbeing of its occupants.

While enriching the immediate neighborhood with public amenities, Fifth & Dinwiddie East will play an important role in building a more sustainable Pittsburgh.
