Children’s Minnesota Minneapolis Emergency Department Flow Renovation Named a Top Project of 2026 by Finance & Commerce
We’re proud to share that the Children’s Minnesota Minneapolis Emergency Department Flow Renovation has been selected as one of the “Top Projects of 2026” by Finance & Commerce.
Finance & Commerce’s Top Projects program recognizes projects across Minnesota that demonstrate innovation, collaboration, problem-solving, and meaningful community impact. We’re especially proud that this marks our first award recognition for a Minneapolis project and honored to see the work recognized within Minnesota’s construction community.
The project reimagined the emergency department entry, waiting, check-in, and triage experience to improve patient flow, reduce wait times, and create a more welcoming experience for children and families. Notably, the team increased patient capacity, and improved how they’re able to move them through the stages of care, entirely within the existing footprint, demonstrating how thoughtful planning and design can transform care delivery without expansion.
“The design also translated the Children’s Minnesota brand into a flexible, family-focused environment,” says Susannah Odlaug, part of the GBBN design team that worked on the project. “It feels distinctly like Children’s Minnesota today while allowing graphics, furnishings, and identity elements to evolve over time without requiring major renovation.”
Phased renovations of such a critical service line required close collaboration between design and construction. Many thanks to our construction partner on the project, McGough, for their seamless coordination and thank you to Finance & Commerce for recognizing our work!
