In the News: Contemporary Craft x GBBN

GBBN is excited to be working with Contemporary Craft on an extensive renovation of the building that will become their new home. The project, located in Pittsburgh’s Upper Lawrenceville neighborhood, is expected to open in March 2020. Since its founding in 1971, Contemporary Craft has showcased national and international artists working in materials such as clay, fiber, and wood.

The design transforms the former industrial building into a destination. True to the values of Contemporary Craft, the space will retain elements of its manufacturing origins, adapted and enhanced to support and advance the organization’s educational, exhibit, and retail programs. Interior and exterior details will juxtapose traditional making methods with newer, digital fabrication techniques, sparking a dialogue about what it means to be made by hand.

Contemporary Craft will continue to challenge and redefine how we think about contemporary art and the craft of making from their new home in Upper Lawrenceville.
