Margaret Mary Health Cuts Ribbon on New All-Electric Hospital

Margaret Mary Health improves access to healthcare throughout the Indiana rural communities it serves. The recent ribbon cutting for their new replacement community hospital in Batesville, Indiana celebrated a new facility that will positively impact patients, care teams, the community, and the region.

“Our new hospital allows us to provide exceptional care in an environment that was intentionally designed for our patients, it creates spaces where our physicians, nurses, therapists, and all of our caregivers can work together more efficiently and effectively,” said Margaret Mary Health President & CEO, Liz Leising. “Just as importantly, this facility positions Margaret Mary Health to attract and retain the very best healthcare talent.”

The new hospital is the state’s first all-electric hospital and one of the most energy efficient hospitals in the nation. The energy efficiency of the new hospital is projected to save Margaret expenses over the next 25 years. This will allow them to put even more resources into the care of their patients and remain an independent, community-focused hub for health.

“The new hospital allows them to embody their sense of wellness and care for the community,” says GBBN’s Aaron Anderson, part of the project’s design team. This is evident throughout the building’s architecture and design. A walking path around the campus provides a wellness opportunity for patients, staff, and visitors, encouraging movement and connection to nature and multiple outdoor spaces encourage social gathering throughout the seasons. Ample daylight and views invite the community to linger, work, and socialize. The café features a hand-crafted tiled wall, created in part with the help of local high schoolers, and is an inviting space to eat or work. The new hospital also features private check-in and discharge areas, a chapel with cast glass panels from their former, 100-year-old facility, and a custom donor recognition feature in the lobby, designed in-house by our environmental graphic design team.
