Mercyhealth Beloit Cuts Ribbon on New Emergency Department

Mercyhealth Beloit recently celebrated their facility expansion with a ribbon cutting.

GBBN worked with Mercyhealth in Beloit, Wisconsin to help transform an existing medical office building into a freestanding emergency department and clinic that can accommodate an anticipated volume of 15,000 visits a year with 24-hour access to service. This project advances Mercyhealth’s strategy of unifying emergency and urgent care under one roof—a care model that has been successfully implemented at other Mercyhealth locations—making it easier for patients to access the level of care they need, when they need it.

“Not only this community, but all communities nationwide seem to be struggling with emergency departments that have long wait times and difficulty with access to primary care services. By opening this facility, we’ll offer the Beloit community another option to find those services when they urgently need them,” says Mercyhealth’s Dr. Aaron Taylor.

The design team thoughtfully deployed Mercyhealth’s systemwide design cues—from exterior materials to interior palette—to create an environment that feels familiar within the broader Mercyhealth system. “My favorite part of this project is how familiar it feels to the Mercyhealth environment of care,” says Susannah Odlaug, part of GBBN’s design team for the project. Ample daylight and views out from the interior, paired with regional limestone on the exterior, add to the warmth and approachability of the building.

This transformed Beloit facility now stands as a model for how thoughtful design can reinforce systemwide consistency while supporting more responsive, community-centered care. Says Susannah, “By emphasizing consistent design elements, we created a space that aligns with Mercyhealth’s identity while elevating clarity, comfort, and care delivery for the community.”
