Ribbon Cut at Griffon Apartments

GBBN recently joined representatives from our client, Model Group, the City of Cincinnati, the Cincinnati Development Fund, and the wider community to cut the ribbon on Griffon Apartments, a mixed-use, mixed income development in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood.

Featuring a mix of historic renovations and new construction across three sites, Griffon adds 48 new units of affordable housing to the city’s urban core. One of these locations was designed by GBBN. Located on Pleasant Street, the GBBN-designed building involved a combination of new construction and historic preservation.

“The design of Griffon really continues our love affair with brick,” says Mary Jo Minerich, who was on the design team. “Griffon is smaller, and in many ways, simpler than Willkommen—a nearby mixed-income mixed-use development we recently designed—but it continues to bring a modern sensibility to this material so distinctive of the historic district. It’s been great to see how the textured pattern around the door and windows engages the senses of the people who encounter the building. It made my day when someone at the entrance said they wanted to pet it!”
